For those of you who have never read my "about" page on my website, I'll go into detail about myself and my work.
My full name is Tesia Sue Blake. My "about" page talks about how I created Shivers and Hatcher, but it doesn't go into much detail about why I made it or from where the idea came. You see, the idea came to me from my mother, because she loves both snowmen and penguins. So I thought about making something that starred a snowman and a penguin who were best friends. At first I considered making a short film or something, but then I thought about other comic strips like Garfield, and I was like, "Maybe I could make this a comic strip." So naturally, I did.
My reasons for making Shivers and Hatcher comics are that I want to make people happy. That's really what I want to do in life: use creative talents to make people happy. By showing you these comics, I hope I can accomplish that and make as many people laugh as possible. I mean, I don't like to just use humor that a specific audience (i.e. college students) would find funny. I like to use humor that EVERYBODY would find funny. This includes jokes like fourth-wall-breaks, character reactions (sometimes even delayed reactions), and even exaggeration to a certain degree. Some of the style of humor was actually inspired in part by that of comics like Garfield. But however I do humor in these comics, I hope that you enjoy them.
Something else you should know about me: I have Asperger's Syndrome, which makes it hard at times to deal with dire or just undesirable situations. It's even been pretty hard for me to deal with all the stuff going on in the world right now. Not to mention I can be literal-minded. But regardless, I've still been able to show a creative side to me, as well as a funny one. In fact, being literal-minded and having Asperger's can actually help in both of those regards, and despite the hiccups it can cause, I've been able to go far. And I want everybody, but especially those who are on the autism spectrum like I am, to see from my comics that they can do the same and do what they set their minds and hearts on doing. Yeah, the comic being made is mostly to make people laugh and happy, but the secondary thing is, you might say, to encourage people!
