About Tesia

My name is Tesia Sue Blake. I am twenty-seven years old and live in Spokane, Washington. I was born on September 30, 1991 in a hospital in Moses Lake, Washington, and grew up with a brother named Timothy, who is two years older than I. We moved to Spokane when I was about five years old, and I have lived there since. I have Asperger’s Syndrome, which makes it hard for me to know people sometimes, as well as to control my feelings, but it also enables me to better focus on a few things like what I want to draw for my comics or write and to relate to the characters I’ve created more than most people might.
I went to Westgate Christian School for my elementary school years, and while I was in second grade, an art teacher came to my class and encouraged me to take professional art lessons because of my gift for art. We ended up not doing so because my parents wanted me to do art out of my love for it, not out of a job. After my elementary school years, I took a home schooling program for high school. After high school, I went to a 2-year college at SFCC and graduated with a degree in art, with an emphasis in 2D.
Once I tried to take a course in 3D animation, and did succeed in getting through a few classes, but the pressure became too much for me (I never realized how much stress it could inflict on one person!), and that was coupled with some stresses through which my mother was going, so I ended up quitting that, not to mention I realized it was not what I really wanted to do with my art. I then began taking some online writing classes, to help me with the writing piece of writing and illustrating comics and books.
I’ve also been working on two comics, a daily one called Shivers and Hatcher and a weekly one called Flint and Mavis. The former is the comic I would like to get into syndication, and have actually made about nine years’ worth of comics for it (I came up  with the idea for it in 2010), some of which tell story arcs, most of which are just silly gags (a bit like Garfield). But however it’s done, I’d like to put it out there so audiences can see and enjoy it, and perhaps get a good laugh out of it. After all, I want my comics to make people feel good inside, in a world where there is so much chaos around them.
I'm also a strong Christian, so I'm especially bothered by all of the chaos, evil, and injustice going on in the world. I hope that my works will not only bring people joy in such a dark world, but will also inspire them to shed some light of their own! I do love all of you, and hope you can see that love through this!
